Heavenly citizenship

Charlize Theron (actress: The Devil's Advocate, Sweet November, The Italian Job, Monster, North Country, Aeon Flux) made a statement recently that she and her boyfriend will only get married when same-sex marriage is legalised. By the way, her last name is not to be pronounced as theron. She comes from South Africa and that is a common Afrikaans surname to be pronounced as tron (with a pronounced r as in brrr). It seems that she has forgotten totally where she comes from and what her roots are.

However, that is not what this is all about.

When I heard that she made the above statement, I suddenly felt quite ashamed that our best current export to the USA could make such a statement. I felt ashamed of being a South African!

Then it dawned on me (I do sometimes wake up) that it doesn't matter where I am, I am a citizen of heaven. Wherever I go I will come across people who make ideological statements like Theron does, yet based on absolutely NO research or facts. Isn't it crazy that she lives in sin with her boyfriend, yet will not get married until gays may legally get married! What a weird illogical concoction!

As a citizen of heaven I stand for that which the Lord of heaven stands. This is clearly delineated in the Bible.

May all citizens of heaven, those commonly called Christians (and I mean REAL Christians), be the ambassadors of our Great and Mighty Lord Jesus Christ that they need to be!

The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination

If there is one book I would recommend to someone who is unsure of what the Calvinistic doctrine of predestination is all about, it would be Loraine Boettner's book, The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination.

Back in the day before I came to understand and embrace the doctrines of sovereign grace, I was challenged to read this book. I did! It took me about 9 months to read through carefully. It completely convinced me of the truth of God's absolute and complete sovereignty in the salvation of the elect.

Suddenly, the Reformed doctrine of predestination made sense.

If you want to take up a mentally challenging book, then this is it. And, as a bargain, it is available online!

Update:
28 Oct 2008 - Here is another online link to this book. And you can also find it in PDF! Further, this book can also be found in MP3 format for free download, then you can listen to the book!

'Jesus' wave!

vvvvVVVVvvvvVVVVvvvv

Sunday night was our church's annual Christmas celebration. "Why in the world did you celebrate on Dec 4?" Very good question!

You see, we are in South Africa, and against popular belief, not all people in the world dream of a white Christmas! Here in the Southern Hemisphere it is approaching the start of summer (Dec 21). That means we have entered our warm to hot months and therefore our annual long holiday is over December. Lots of people take their leave over December. That is why we celebrate Christmas as a church so early in December!

I will probably receive a lot of flack for this post, but I need to write about it since it bothers me!

The usual flow of events is that we sing Christmas carols, listen to a short sermon and then each gets a party pack that includes sweets (candy), streamers, balloons and an ice-cream. It is basically a night of festivities. This time the church had a choir first and then we sang carols. In past years we used to sing these carols by candlelight, but since they have very recently installed new carpets, it was decided by the church to hand out glow sticks instead.

Now, before I continue... I am in NO way against Christians having fun and enjoying the times they have together!

When the carols started the lights were supposed to be dimmed so that we could all sing with our fake modern candles (glow sticks) waving in the air. The glow sticks are actually very practical, since candle wax drop on the carpets and you never know when a kid is going to set something on fire with their candles!

At one point the lights came on unexpectedly while we were singing and instead of continuing to worship the incarnate Son, there was loud disappointment with a very vocal "Aaagh!" I thought that the idea of carols in a church setting was to exalt the One and only Son who came to earth as a human being for that great and wonderful purpose for which He was sent, death on a cross! Instead, all that the people could concern themselves was that the lights came on. I understand that it looks quite impressive to see all those glow sticks in the dark, and that it creates quite a mood. But to express such vocal disappointment in the middle of a carol while supposedly worshipping the King of kings and the Lord of lords just does not make sense. Did these people come to express their thanks to an Almighty God who sent His only Son, or did they come for one thing only... fun?

If our worship is to be reduced to a factor of fun, then we do not know what worship is at all! Should worship create a sense of extreme joy in us because of the very Person we worship? Yes! Should our worship be reduced to only what we feel? No! In this case we might as well go to watch our favourite sports team. If they win, we will get the feeling!

The fact is that if our worship is reduced to that very low common ground of feeling or fun, then we are no longer worshipping! We have simply become drones in a modern church which is quite devoid of true worship. It is then a church which has been influenced by the world and modern technology to such an extent that we can no longer do without the wonder of technology, and as a result have been assimilated into the world in Borg-like fashion and resistance to the temptations of the world has become futile. Then we have aspired so much to be like the world that we no longer have anything relevant to say to the world. If the church looks like the world, why should the world change?

Instead, we should resist the temptations and the love of the world. Our charge is not to "love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  (16)  For all that is in the world--the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions--is not from the Father but is from the world." (1Jo 2:15-16 ESV)

Later in the service when everybody was in a happy mood because of the carols and the glow sticks, the pastor went on stage and got everybody in the church (about 6000) to do a "'Jesus' wave." The spiritual equivalent of a Mexican wave.

Can you imagine deflating Jesus--Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace--down to a 'Jesus' wave? Here is God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, being made equivalent to a sports event! No wonder the world finds us out of step with reality. Even they can understand that when Christians proclaim someone with the supposed stature of Jesus, that when we cheapen Him with stunts like these, we are clearly out of step with what we purport to believe!

What is it with the modern church that no longer want to be different to the world? The church is doing its utmost to be and act as the world does!

I will say nothing of the woman preacher. That is a totally different issue!

All I can say is that when we try so hard to be relevant to the world that we end up being like the world, we have lost all relevancy to the world. We're not to be relevant to the world in the way we dress, or the way we play our music or irrelevant things like that. We are to be relevant to the world as to where they are.

Where are they? The Bible makes it clear:

(10)  as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;
(11)  no one understands; no one seeks for God.
(12)  All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."
(13)  "Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive." "The venom of asps is under their lips."
(14)  "Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."
(15)  "Their feet are swift to shed blood;
(16)  in their paths are ruin and misery,
(17)  and the way of peace they have not known.",
(18)  "There is no fear of God before their eyes.""
(Rom 3:10-18 ESV)

They are sinners. Sinners that need to hear the gospel. We must stop treating them with modern psychobabble and preach the unflinching gospel without apologies to them. Watered down messages just will not do. Such messages do not bring salvation but only damnation, since these people will think they are saved when they are not.

Come church! The only way you can be relevant to the world is by telling them the truth!

European Christian youth go starkers

Phil Johnson, a master at parody with his comic book covers, seems to be at a loss for words for a new calendar produced and promoted by a German Protestant youth group from Nuremburg. I kind of feel the same. It makes me wonder what is next?

I wrote two previous posts on the new BibleZine fad which is currently going on, which is bad enough! (The Bible being trivialized and The Bible being trivialized - continued)

This new calendar that was released actually features nudity! This makes the BibleZine fad look like a kindergarten class!

There is no longer any need from paroders like Phil Johnson to do any parodies, since the real thing has now become worse than the parodies.

That any "Christian" youth at any time could have thought that producing and selling a "Christian" calendar with naked people could ever in eternity be morally acceptable shows how empty their morality and Christian worldview has become.

The leaders of this church will bear their punishment for leading their young people away from the purity of Christ and towards the filth and impurity of hell! Leaders such as this have become double agents for the forces of hell and is in desparate need to be touched by the holiness of God.

Oh, that we may forever behold the glory of God, and not succumb to the temptations of this evil world.

Scripture is very strong on the lusts of the flesh:

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (16) For all that is in the world--the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions--is not from the Father but is from the world."
1Jo 2:15-16 ESV

This group violates at least two of these forbidden lusts: lusts of the flesh and lusts of the eyes. What is next? Christian prostitution?

We need to pray for them and hope that they see the light. May God have mercy on their souls!

Can we trust the ANC with our children?

Here is a bit of news that it seems South Africans probably could have missed. When it comes to how this government and its courts are handling our children, please also read my post Cheap victims.

The South African Department of Social Development had proposed an amendment to the law which currently allows for children from the age of 12 to be given contraceptives without their parents' consent, to be moved upwards to 14.

However, the National Council of Provinces' select committee on social services has decided to keep that age at 12.

It seems ludicrous that such a young age could ever be acceptable for the distribution of contraceptives. It clearly sends the message to our children that it is morally correct for them to participate in sex at such young ages. Not that it is ever morally acceptable outside of the confines of marriage between one man and one woman.

It simply points to the fact that the ANC-run government in South Africa has absolutely NO idea on how to get children to stop having sex and to live moral lives. Well, that is what you get when you choose not to honour God as a nation and to exclude Him at Constitutional level from the nation.

This government is systematically removing children from the ties of their parents. When children can receive contraceptives at the age of 12 without the knowledge of their parents, it stands to reason that those same parents no longer has a right to teach their chidren any morality at all, since the government has decided that these children may have sex at least from the age of 12.

The government's stance, as with the HIV/AIDS pandemic (5.2m of 47m people infected), is that people are having sex anyhow, so we should at least make it safe for them to participate in murder. That is such a useless argument! We may as well say that people are committing murder anyhow, so let's at least provide them with guns that have safety switches! The government has no idea how to deal with free sex in this country nor can it handle the rate of infections in this country. The reason for this is that they have no base to build a proper moral solution from.

As a result, all the government can do is throw contraceptives and condoms at the problem without solving it. It is totally obvious to anyone with a brain the size of a pea that abstaining from any sexual contact until true marriage is the ONLY solution to our HIV/AIDS problems. Denying this would only prove the premise that our government, and those that deny it, have no idea what morality constitutes and how to build a moral base to live from.

It makes my heart ache to think that the ANC government has no real solution to the sex problems in this country while untold thousands of people are dying each year as a result of that very moral-less base the ANC is trying to run this country from!

It will be good for every political party in South Africa to heed this chapter from the book of Psalms, but especially the ANC! Christians sitting back not doing anything should also listen to what the Lord says!

"O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth! (2) Rise up, O judge of the earth; repay to the proud what they deserve! (3) O LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked exult? (4) They pour out their arrogant words; all the evildoers boast. (5) They crush your people, O LORD, and afflict your heritage. (6) They kill the widow and the sojourner, and murder the fatherless; (7) and they say, "The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob does not perceive." (8) Understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise? (9) He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see? (10) He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke? He who teaches man knowledge-- (11) the LORD--knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath. (12) Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O LORD, and whom you teach out of your law, (13) to give him rest from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked. (14) For the LORD will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage; (15) for justice will return to the righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it. (16) Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers? (17) If the LORD had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence. (18) When I thought, "My foot slips," your steadfast love, O LORD, held me up. (19) When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. (20) Can wicked rulers be allied with you, those who frame injustice by statute? (21) They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. (22) But the LORD has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge. (23) He will bring back on them their iniquity and wipe them out for their wickedness; the LORD our God will wipe them out."
Psa 94:1-23 ESV

South Africa's unelected immorality

It was to be expected! The Constitutional Court had a very weak constitution to work with when they decided this morning in South Africa to give the go-ahead to same-sex marriage.

The fact is that these judges are unelected by the people of South Africa and they now made a decision that definitely goes against the grain of South African society. Even though the court gave government one year to come up with appropriate legislation either for or against same-sex marriage, we all know that the ANC government is weak when it comes to real issues. They easily capitulate when it seems that they might lose their power.

Just because a group shouts very loudly about their so-called "rights" does not mean that that group should get those rights or that they are in the majority. The fact is that gays/lesbians only make up around 4% of society. This means that the court has given the God-given rights of heterosexuals away to a minority. A minority that stands defiantly with their rebellion in the face of God!

Steve Swart of the ACDP (African Christian Democratic Party) had this to say about marriage:

"The ACDP is in agreement with the views of the Marriage Alliance, consisting of some 70 denominations representing some 18 million people, that ‘no State or Court should seek to alter the traditional, and, from time immemorial, universal understanding of God-given marriage as heterosexual, and of course in terms of Christian understanding, also monogamous. We affirm that the traditional understanding of marriage is correct, that it is the God-given context for male/female bonding, mutual care, sexual intimacy and inter-dependent support. Then it is the God-given place for the procreation of children and the production of the next generation in the world...it is the proper, best, safest and most wonderful context and shelter for the nurturing and raising of children. Because marriage and the family antedates and precedes the state and its various organs, the state cannot change marriage but only recognise it."

The fact is also that there has always been equality when it comes to marriage. There is no inequality! Both men and women may get married. One man and one woman in a monogamous relationship in covenant with God.

Gays/lesbians are already living in gross sin, and I am not talking of the "yuk" factor here but rather the extent of the sin, so why do they want someone to bless them in that sin against God? Oh, yes! That is exactly what they want. They want people and God to overlook their sin to satisfy their own selfish depraved passions.

What is so amazing to me is God's grace! The fact that He hasn't ground this planet to a powder yet shows His patience with humanity. The fact that God has not destroyed this planet yet must not be misconstrued as a leniency against sin in the nature of God! This planet exists only due to God's mercy and His grace.

God is giving YOU time to come to repentance.

However, the day will come when God will wait no longer and He will indeed destroy this earth.

The good news is that all that are found to be in Christ--those who have put all their trust for salvation in Christ alone and in the atonement He made for their sins--will be given a new heaven and a new earth, living with God into eternity.

Ake Green acquitted by Sedish Court

Good news is that Ake Green from Sweden had been acquitted in a 5-0 decision by the Swedish Supreme Court of hate speech against homosexuals.

Green preached a sermon in which he proclaimed the Biblical viewpoint concerning homosexuality. Ake Green concluded his message on that day like this:

"We must never think that some people, because of their sinful lives, would end up outside of grace. Paul says about himself that he was the foremost of all sinners, but he encountered an abundance of grace and mercy. He also states in First Corinthians 6:9-11, when he lists sexual immorality with other sins, that you can be saved from all the listed sins, including sexual immorality. What these people need, who live under the slavery of sexual immorality, is an abundant grace. It exists. It is valid also for them. Therefore we will encourage those who live in this manner to look at the grace of Jesus Christ. We cannot condemn these people -- Jesus never did that either. He showed everyone He met deep respect for the person they were, for instance the adulterous woman, in John 8, or the woman at the well in Sychar, according to John 4. Jesus never belittled anyone. He offered them grace. We must never belittle anyone who lives in sin."

Elisabeth Elliot

Josh Harris gives a "thumbs up" to Elisabeth Elliot.

He quotes from a letter she wrote:

"The world cries for men who are strong—strong in conviction, strong to lead, to stand, to suffer. I pray that you will be that kind of man—glad that God made you a man, glad to shoulder the burden of manliness in a time when to do so will often bring contempt."

Cheap victims

South Africa keeps showing itself as one of the most liberal governments and most liberal judicial systems in the world.

It makes me wonder where it all will end. With a government and judicial philosophy such as this, without the clear intervention of God Himself, I cannot see how this country will not end up in anarchy. Perhaps that is exactly what this government wants. Since, if that happens, they will have to come out in force to restore order. In this event, they will prove themselves as "saviours" in a mobocratic country, thereby installing themselves as sole rulers of this country. They will become tyrants and rule with an iron fist, crushing anyone who disagrees with them under the guise of "keeping order."

In a recent case, a pervert from Switzerland who had sex with a 14-year old boy, received a R10,000 smack on his wrist and was sent back home to Switzerland! "Sorry my boy! You are a cheap victim! This nice Swiss man will pay us for destroying your life!" This seems to be the attitude of our judicial system.

It saddens me to know I live in a country where victims, on a daily basis, are being re-victimized by our own judicial system when the criminals get little slaps on their wrists!

"Come on planet Earth! Come to South Africa! Come violate our little boys with your perverted sexual lusts! Simply pay us, the big judicial pimps for the service of our boys!" In this case the government became the Big Pimp, declaring to the world that we do not value our own children.

Once again, it shows that justice does not rule in this country! All you need is money and you can get off! Even from being punished for such a heinous crime! It is disgraceful!

The chief whip of the ACDP (African Christian Democratic Party), Cheryllyn Dudley, MP released this statement:

29 November 2005

ACDP’s disgust at sodomy of minor

The ACDP finds it repulsive that Peter Zimmerman, the man arrested for sodomising a 14-year-old boy in Gauteng has been let off with a measly fine.

This action sends a strong message that anyone with financial means and a good legal team can commit a crime with no consequence. It also has the possibility of sending the message to foreign nationals that building South Africa’s tourism takes priority even at the expense of our children.

This is the price South Africans are expected to pay for promoting Pink tourism.

The long awaited Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Amendment Bill tabled in Parliament earlier this year which seeks to broaden the definition of rape to include male victims has been inexcusably delayed because instead of protecting minors, attempts are being made to lower the age of consent to have sex with an adult from the current 19-years-old to 16-years-old for boys. This will make conviction of the perpetrator impossible as it will place the burden on victims to prove that they did not consent to having sex. Furthermore, bribes and other forms of intimidation may come into play.

The Gauteng police department spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mary Martins-Engelbrecht was reported to have said that the arrest of Zimmerman was a warning to other foreign nationals that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated. The ACDP finds it hypocritical of the department to make such statements and at the same time letting Zimmerman off virtually scot-free whilst his victim will suffer a life sentence of consequences and is not even assured of relevant counseling and necessary health care.

This action reveals the real state of affairs in South Africa, where the value of a child depends on the whims and convenience of those who should protect minors and even the justice system is apparently prepared to turn a blind eye for the right price. Or is it the homosexual agenda being protected at any cost?

The ACDP will be raising these questions with the Department of Justice.
Thank you to the ACDP for standing up against this immorality of the judicial system not standing up for the defenseless. The Bible makes it clear that as Christians it is our duty to stand up for the defenseless, to ensure justice for the poor, the widow and the stranger.

If Christians do not stand up for what is right objectively, based on the Bible, then who will? Sure, there are some "human rights" organizations that might stand up for these people, but who knows; in time they may change their minds with the drifting sands of human opinion and no longer stand up for the defenseless.

I am of the opinion that this ANC government needs to be voted out as soon as possible, but even that is not soon enough.

The ANC government may have said in their hearts that they would cast off God's rule over the nation, but God will not sit back and let injustice and evil prevail.

(1) Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?  (2)  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,  (3)  "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us."  (4)  He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.  (5)  Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,  (6)  "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill."  (7)  I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you.  (8)  Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.  (9)  You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."  (10)  Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.  (11)  Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  (12)  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. (Psa 2:1-12 ESV)

God will not let the wicked go unpunished, and if that includes a wicked government that does not fulfill its God-given duties, then He will provide for the defenseless. If that means ridding the earth of evil governments, then He will. He has done it once with the Eastern Communistic block and He will do it again.

The sooner governments acknowledge God's sovereignty over the affairs of all spheres of life, including politics, the sooner these governments will stay God's judgement upon them.

If the ANC government has not heard the call to repentance yet, then accept this as its call to repentance.

Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand!
