Black Jesus

Have you ever thought of Jesus as black? Well, if you have then now you can see the movie.

In the movie Son of Man, Jesus is portrayed as being born in a squatter camp somewhere in a modern-day African state plagued by war and poverty. Director Mark Dornford-May disclosed his idea for the movie, saying that they "wanted to look at the gospels as if they were written by spindoctors and to strip that away and look at the truth... The truth is that Christ was born in an occupied state and preached equality at a time when that wasn't very acceptable."

For Dornford-May, it seems that Jesus' message was all about equality. There certainly is a message of equality in the preaching of Jesus. However, that equality is not the same as what Dornford-May expects! The equality that Jesus preached is that all are equally condemned before a holy God and deserving of an eternity in hell! This equality demands that we all pay for our sin. Since, God is an infinitely holy God and we have broken the laws of such an infinitely holy God, the righteous and just demands of a righteous and just God is that we pay infinitely for our sin. However, since we cannot pay enough for breaking the just laws of God, it is righteous and just for us to pay for an eternity for that sin in hell!

Anyhow, the fact is that Dornford-May has become the spindoctor himself, and succeeded in adding "spin" to the life of Christ!

Just thinking...
